It’s Been A Minute

I’ve slacked. Kind of. I did some writing over the summer but it never made it onto this blog. Time to start back up, just like I started classes a couple weeks ago.

So these are my classes:

  • Intercultural Communication: Seems pretty interesting. We have a “conversation partner” who is an international student. Mine is from China, and I will have to meet with her, write a paper on my experiences, then we will present a cultural differences presentation near the end of the semester. I like the more practical vs. theoretical approach my professor is using for the class.
  • Principles of Teaching: My professor is definitely a good teacher, and she should be, as she is teaching a teaching course! This class seems to fly by more than any of the others because she keeps it interesting. Of course I’m excited to learn how to become an effective teacher!
  • Education in a Democratic Society: A lot of the issues we will be talking about interest me and the class is mostly discussion with 4 projects instead of tests. Chyeah.
  • American Literature 1865-1945: Could be an interesting class, and I like the poetry we are reading. But my professor… ugh, he moves so slowly and is so hard to understand. I have nearly dozed off in every one of these classes I’ve been in and don’t look forward to going, but he takes attendance.
  • Teaching Reading and Literature: A lot of work to do in this class, but it’s mostly reading and writing about young adult novels so it’s alright so far!

I also just got hired to work at the Schwebel Garden Room above the Student Center. I wanted to be a server, but I’m starting out as an expeditor in the kitchen. Hours fit in perfectly with my classes. I start next week I think. Hope I like it! Or that I at least make enough to pay the bills.
