How high can you go? Or how greedy?

I just read part of an article on Yahoo talking about how the NY Yankees are about to offer CC Sabathia the highest-ever salary amount for a pitcher. I heard that he wants to pitch in the National League and probably on the west coast. Question is, is will he follow his heart or go for the money? The money wouldn’t really shock me.

The next question is, is why does any baseball player need this inane amount of money? I LOVE baseball and its players, but come on folks! Everyone knows this and shakes their head, but really. Will that few extra million the Yankees are offering Sabathia over, say, the Angels really going to improve his life? I don’t care what the Yankees pay me, I’ll never be a fan!

I hate when I see how baseball has just become a business, all about the budget and blah blah blah. I guess that’s how it has to go.

It also seems like once a player gains a “name”, their value absolutely shoots through the roof. A player not even making a million, if awesome over the season, could go for substantially higher the next. Why does anyone need millions in the double digits every year to throw a baseball? I mean, I’m sure it’s nice to be a big name rich player, but to get all cranky over how many millions you’re getting? You’re already getting MILLIONS! Shut up and play for the love of the game already!
